In 1885 the First Christian Church of Alma, Nebraska was founded with 46 charter members, who signed the following pledge:

“We, the undersigned, agree to associate ourselves together as members of the Church of Christ at Alma to be governed by the Bible alone and pledging ourselves to God and to each other to the best of our ability to live in accordance with its teachings.”

In 1888 the congregation built and dedicated their first building, and then the current building at 202 Jewell was built in 1924.  In 1991 the Alma Christian Church left the Disciples of Christ denomination and became an independent church.

In recent years the congregation was aging and in decline.  At that time, they were made aware of a group of families that were meeting for worship in homes in Alma.  After several meetings, the asking and answering of questions, the two groups merged and on July 9, 2017 joined the Berean Fellowship of Churches.  The Berean Fellowship is a group of 60 churches, primarily in the mid-west, founded in 1935, who are evangelical.

Alma Christian Church joined the Berean Fellowship July 9, 2017, becoming Alma Berean Church.
